I just copied and pasted this from an email to someone so if it sounds like I'm talking directly to a specific person, I was LOL
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so last Sunday my friend invited me to a free concert at First Ave. She is a street team person for Capital Records and had to go to get email addresses from people, and hand out posters. So I went with her. I didn't know 1 of the opening bands, and the main headliner The Darkness I didn't like, and I had listened to a few samples of songs from the other opening band Foxy Shazam (the one she was there for) and I liked what I heard but didn't know the songs good enough to sing along. Anyway so we get there, handed out posters to people in line, got people's email addresses for the mailing list, and got in.
My friend went to the tour manager and talked to him a bit then we saw the keyboardist from Foxy Shazam nearby so we stopped him and got pictures with him. It was wierd meeting a band member before even seeing them LOL I would have been more excited if I had already been into them!
The first opening band sucked but they only played 5 songs, during most of which me and my friend were busy putting up posters and sneaking up the side so we could get up to the front and have a good view, which is a nice trick I am totally doing next time I see a show there if I'm ever too late to get down in the front!
So, then Foxy Shazam came on. And literally 30 seconds in, my mouth was hanging open and I kept saying "Oh my God!" I was blown away. Completely blown away!! I was in such awe at how awesome they were that I immediately knew I would be buying all their cd's and they would probably become my new favorite band. I can't even hardly put it into words how good they were. I have been to at least 150 concerts in my life, and these guys, only 30 seconds in, had me convinced they were the best band I've ever seen live. There are 6 guys in the band, and all of them were doing awesome crazy shit almost nonstop, I've NEVER seen anything like it. The amount of energy of all of them combined could have powered a small town LOL There is a trumpet player and he was acting like he was having sex with it LOL The keyboardist played his keyboard with his FOOT, and would play with his leg up on it with his arms under his legs! Then he picked his keyboard up and HANDED it to the audience, then proceeded to KEEP PLAYING IT while the audience was holding it! The bassist was balancing his bass from the neck up with his hand, how the hell he did that I have no idea...then the singer, he was...there are just no words for him. He was doing handstands, summersaults, climbing on everything! He lit 5 cigarrettes at the same time, then ATE them. Then he ran up behind the guitarist and HOPPED up ONTO his shoulders, while the guy was playing, and sang the next song from atop his shoulders. Then he puts on a cowboy hat with lights on it and told us a joke. Everything he said was hilarious and/or really cool.
Then after the show, I didn't even wanna see The Darkness (I didn't like that song by them anyway) and my friend was cool with walking around so we went to the merch table and I bought their newest cd, that was all they had, but i was freaking out going "how many cd's do they have!?" and "Oh my god they were the best band i've ever seen live!!" lol Then after a bit we walked over to the Seventh Street Entry (another little venue attached to First Ave), and this guy my friend knows was playing with his band over there. Then we went over to the Depot which is a bar & grill connected to Seventh Street Entry. We got a burger and fries and were sitting there eating when 4 of the Foxy Shazam guys come walking in! Of course my friend wanted to go talk to them but I was afraid cuz they were reading their menus and I didn't want to bother them, but she insisted LOL I'm glad she did cuz I got my picture taken with them too. The only thing that sucked was 2 of the guys weren't there. I'll have to catch them next time, which hopefully is SOON!!
